In MIM management game..

TAR College Teams’ Magnificent Win in the MIM-RICOH National Management Game 2009

TAR College stamped its winning mark again by grabbing the Champion and First Runner-up titles at the MIM-Ricoh National Management Game 2009.

Being the only two student teams in the 2009 game, the TAR College teams defeated 22 other teams comprising managers and executives from various organisations around the nation to clinch the top two spots in the Competition which was held over a one-month period. The final of the Game was held at the Holiday Inn Glenmarie in November last year.

The champion team consisted of Shue Kian Leong (team leader), Lim Xiao Min, Charles Ho and Chong Sok Moon, while the first runners-up consisted of Michael Puah (team leader), Chee Meng Yee, Leau Qi Ren and Lim Han Yeong. The teams were guided by the College academic staff Mr Lim Chin Hock and Mr Goh See Kwong.

Both the TAR College teams comprised Advanced Diploma in Business Studies students from different disciplines, including marketing, accounting, e-commerce, business management and management accounting. As such, they were able to share expertise and form formidable teams in the Game.

The TAR College winning teams (holding trophies) together with Mr Lim Eng Weng, Managing Director of RICOH and Ms Kho Sok Kee, Head of TAR College School of Business Studies (back row, 4th and 5th from the left), the Game Master Mr Low Chee Seng (back row, 2nd from the left) and also TAR College School of Business Studies officials.

Organized by the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) and sponsored by RICOH, the National Management Game is a computer-simulated business game which allowed participants to pit their management and business skills against other competing teams for market share and increased profits in a “real” business world.

During the competition, the TAR College students displayed sound finance, production, investment, pricing and marketing strategies that are required to manage an organization with maximum efficiency.

“This competition had taught us a lot about the challenges we would be facing in the real business world. We came to appreciate the theories and knowledge which we spent countless nights studying and complaining about. At the crucial moment, they become very useful in guiding us to develop our strategies,” said Shue Kian Leong, the leader of the champion team.

“I truly cherish the strong understanding and co-operation that each of us in the team has demonstrated throughout the competition. It was the moral support and motivation shown not only among our team members but also our lecturers that made us want to do our very best,” added Shue.

The award prizes were cash (RM3,000 for the champion and RM2,000 for the first runners-up) trophies and certificates. Last year, TAR College students also swept the top two places at the MIMS-MIM Management Game (Inter-College Challenge Trophy), the inaugural inter-varsity management game organized by MIM.
